Sunday Stills - Moods & Emotions

This weeks challenge was for photos that invoke emotions. Not what they make the photographer feel, but the feelings brought forth by those who see the photos.
Tricky? Hmm, yeah for me it was! lol
I gave it a shot though. Had to pull from the archives as I've been busy playing with my new camera, trying to figure it out, and as such have no post worthy pics from it yet (its my first "big girl" camera, a Nikon D90 - I may have stepped too far out of my comfort zone! lol)
All pics in this post are straight out of camera* and taken with my little handy-dandy point and shoot Nikon S210.
*the last picture was cropped to exclude half of another horse on one side, other than that all pics are completely untouched.

  1. Great photos. Lots of emotions of beauty and peace and some adventure, too. That first photo is my fave. I've not take a nap in a hammock for years. Is that your hammock?

ps Thanks for your comment. I appreciate the feedback and agree about the ringbit. I didn't like it at all and thought that was big reason my mare was acting so jumpy and difficult. I answered your comment over at my blog, but I'll copy it over here so you don't have to go back.

"I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I never said 'any well trained horse can use any bit'.

What I said (copied and pasted here) was: I’ve always been told that it’s not the bit that controls a horse, it’s the rider and having a well-trained horse. A horse can ride through any bit if it really wants to."

Which means that bits are not what control a horse. Bits are for communication ONLY. They do not control a horse.

Also, I am fully aware that every horse mouth is different and that some horses can't even take a bit. Which is exactly why my own mare never went well in any bit and why I chose to use the Dr. Cook's Bitless Bridle or a hackamore to ride her."

  2. That first one makes me feel lazy. Is lazy an emotion?

  3. Some very nice pictures posted here. I especially loved the first one and I like the one where it looks like the horse is coming through a tunnel of greenery towards you.

  5. Love the hammock picture especially since it looks warm and green. Right now the idea of being in a hammock in the sun would be like heaven given the cold. I also like the horse drinking from the stream. Nice job! PS would love to hear more about your new camera, I am thinking of replacing mine.

  6. I especially like the horse coming through the woods and the rolling horse photos.
The rolling horse gives me that sinking feeling I get when I see my horses get so dirty and I know that I've got to groom them, even though I am happy to see them feeling good and healthy.

  7. @ Lisa - hope I wasn't coming off as too "preachy". I didn't think that it was neccessarily YOUR opinion but rather what you had been told by someone.

@ all re the hammock - I WISH it was mine! lol That was at my Aunt & Uncle's cabin (cottage?) in New Brunswick. I was able to visit in Aug/08 for the first time since I was a child. The hammock pic, to me, feels dreamy.

@ Leah - you bet lazy is an emotion! (IMO)

@wilsonc - I love that pic of Rainy (horse in the 'tunnel') He actually snuck up on me as I was walking through the pasture. I kept hearing something around the bush and as I walked around it he was keeping it between us. Then I gave up and went to walk past it to where my horses were and he came through that tunnel-like spot.

  13. Those are nice, peaceful shots. I never feel like I have enough scenery to take pictures of. I have to zoom on in berries and branches and stuff, because the trees block the sky. There is little "openness" here!
Congrats on the new camera, I am SO excited for you! Can't wait to hear what you think about it!
